The Early Intervention (EI) program provides services to children from birth through three years of age who have special needs due to developmental delays or disabilities. EI is a collection of services with supports designed to help families with the challenge of parenting a child with developmental delays.
Since children learn best within the context of their family, the majority of services are provided in the child's home. Services are designed to foster normal early childhood development and healthy family functioning through intervention, education, consultation, and training.
EI services can include service coordination, developmental special instruction, occupational, speech, and physical therapy, and assistive technology services. In some cases additional services such as nursing, nutrition, hearing, vision, mental health, and transportation may be available. EI is a free service.
