Employment Opportunities

Bedford-Somerset MH/MR is a local government agency with offices located in both Bedford and Somerset Counties. Hiring is done through the State Civil Service Commission.  This requires applicants to be on appropriate civil service lists through the testing process.

Individuals interested in employment should email their name, address, telephone number, educational background and work experience to Jen Georg, Human Resource Analyst, jeng@besmhmr.dst.pa.us .  The information will be reviewed to determine eligibility.  The appropriate job information will then be sent via e-mail, mail or individuals may visit the Civil Service website at www.scsc.state.pa.us to complete an application online and schedule an exam.

  • ACCOUNTANT 1 – degree (must have 15 college credits in accounting) plus one year of professional accounting experience OR 15 college credits in accounting and five years of bookkeeping experience. 
     
  • ACCOUNTANT 2 – degree (must have 15 college credits in accounting) plus two years of professional accounting experience.
  • COUNTY CASEWORKER 1 – degree (must have 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or related social sciences).
     
  • COUNTY CASEWORKER 2 – degree plus one year of professional social casework experience in public/private social services OR combination of experience and 12 college credits.

  • COUNTY CASEWORKER 3 degree plus three years professional social casework experience OR combination of experience and 12 college credits.
     
  • COUNTY CASEWORK SUPERVISOR – degree (must have 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or related social sciences) plus two years of professional experience in public or private social work OR combination of experience and education, which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or other related social sciences.
     
     
  • COUNTY MH or MR PROGRAM SPECIALIST 1 – degree plus two years professional level experience in appropriate field.
     
     
  • COUNTY MH OR MR PROGRAM SPECIALIST 2  – degree plus three years professional level experience in appropriate field.
     
     
  • COUNTY MH or MR PROGRAM DIRECTOR – degree plus five years professional level experience in appropriate field including three years of administrative, supervisory, or consultative work.
     
     
  • RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR 1degree plus one year experience working with mentally disabled.

MASTER'S DEGREE

  • PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICE ASSOCIATE 1 – in psychology or closely related field.

  • PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICE ASSOCIATE 2 – in psychology or closely related field and one year of supervised experience in psychological services work.

  • SOCIAL WORKER – degree in Social Work.

MEDICAL

  • LPN – possess of current Pennsylvania license as a LPN.

  • REGISTERED NURSE 1 – graduation from an approved school of professional nursing and posses current PA license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES AIDEone year of experience working with persons with mental or physical disabilities.

  • RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM WORKERone year experience in Human Services work or two years college in appropriate human services field.

  • RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM SUPERVISOR – two years direct services experience in human services work, one year involved working with mentally disabled OR combination of experience and training.

  • CLERK 3 – one year of progressively complex clerical experience and completion of high school OR six months moderately complex clerical experience and completion of a post high school business curriculum.

  • CLERK TYPIST 3one year of progressively complex clerical typing work and completion of a post high school business curriculum.

  • FISCAL ASSISTANT – two years experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work OR an Associate's degree in accounting or business including or supplemented by six credits in accounting.

  • FISCAL TECHNICIAN – three years of work involving the maintenance of fiscal or financial records, including one year of work which involves accounting or fiscal principles; OR one year of experience in maintaining and reviewing fiscal records and an Associate's degree in accounting or business administration.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM TRAINEE – must complete application and application supplement.

  • CLERK TYPIST 2 – must pass the multiple choice and typing tests.

  • CUSTODIAL WORKER – general office cleaning experience preferred but not required.
